A South German ivory relief of Hercules with Ceres and Nike, circa 1700.

With minor traces of former polychromy.. A high-relief depiction in a finely worked frame. To the centre, Hercules is shown seated with his attributes, the lion's pelt and club, and accompanied by the Goddess Ceres with a cornucopia and the winged Nike. The rocky landscape with its plants, trees and view of a temple is equally as finely worked as the figural group.
One finger of Hercules damaged, otherwise perfect. 12.5 x 7.8 cm.
