Signed and dated upper right JDahl (JD ligatured). 1837.

This small painting, within which the texture of the paper is evident, was previously laid down on wood (the panel is still existent). This work is probably the small landscape format piece which was previously only known to the editor of the 1987 catalogue raisonné Marie Lodrup Bang through a non-illustrated entry in the Dahl Auction catalogue of 1860, the whereabouts of which were previously unknown. The varying dimensions given by Bang are probably to be explained by her approximate conversion of the old measurements into inches.
