Rows of trees reflected in rivers became one of Clarenbach's signature motifs. Alongside views of the Lower Rhine, the artist also began painting numerous images of the river Erft from around 1905 onwards. In this misty view, the landscape and its reflection appear to merge in a haze of subtle colours.
