A bronze incense burner. 16th century

A bronze incense burner in shape of an archaic ding on three thin legs, the body and the flat lid decorated with scrolls and diaper patterns of inlaid silver wire, the legs gilded and engraved with lingzhi. At the base round seal mark: Chen Daisheng zao. 16th century.
Height 12 cm; diameter 12.3 cm

An incense burner with presumably the same four-character seal script mark in a sunken reserve on the base is attributed by Paul Moss to Chen Duo who lived in Nanjing but was a native of Xiapi in Jiangsu province. Compare: Emperor Scholar Artisan Monk, Sidney L. Moss, Ltd., London 1984, p. 266-267
