A very fine Tokyo school wood netsuke of Daikoku carving a rat. Early 20th century

Seated wearing elaborate robes, sculpting a rat with a chisel and using his mallet as a hammer, the chippings covering the base. The cord holes lined with green-stained bone. Signed rokujûsan ô Tôkoku tô (carved by the 63-year old Tôkoku) and incised seal Bairyû.

Suzuki Tôkoku (1846-1831) carved this netsuke in the year 1908.
