A Tokyo school ivory netsuke of a seated Hotei, by Yasuaki. Late 19th century

The loosely worn robe displaying a bare shoulder, fleshy chest and belly, the garment with tama inlaid in different-coloured horn, at the back a nyoi sceptre of wood slipped into the green-stained sash. Himotôshi lined with dark horn. Signed Yasuaki and silver seal Kodama.
