A Tokyo school ivory netsuke of a monkey with an inrô, by Yoshiyuki. Ca. 1960-1970

Seated in a sleeveless jacket with asa-no-ha pattern, the monkey inspects the manjû hanging from an inrô with a lorgnette. The inrô lacquered brown, the manjû of greenish colour, at the back a tear-shaped glass or semi-precious stone inlay. Signed Yoshiyuki.

Shibata Yoshiyuki (1883-1970) lived in Tokyo and became known for monkey-mimic and using stone inlays and pigments for embellishment of his netsuke.
