This lively and fluidly painted work by an as yet unidentified master uses an identical composition to Paolo Veronese's altarpiece "The Martyrdom of Saint Afra" from the "Chiesa di Sant´Afra in Sant´Eufemia" in Brescia. Aside from the use of Veronese's motif, the piece displays various stylistic parallels to the work of Leandro Bassano, such as the heavy impasto and the style of the figures, therefore the artist is assumed to have been a member of his circle.
