The present work belongs to a group of drawings by Guercino upon which Domenico Maria Bonaveri (1653- 1719) based engravings. These were probably commissioned by Guercino's nephew Benedetto Gennari (1633 - 1715) after the artist's death.
Nicholas Turner has confirmed the authenticity of this piece and dated it to around 1650.
