A probably Central Rhenish carved wooden figure of the Virgin with Child, second half 15th century. Madonna mit Kind

Carved three-quarters in the round, the left edge an original attachment, the reverse flattened and hollowed out. With older, partially overpainted polychromy.. A large statue of the crowned Virgin holding the infant Christ over Her left hip, Her body leant slightly backwards in gentle contrapposto. The Virgin wears a pleated and girded red gown which is largely covered by a long blue cloak, the hem of which She holds gathered in Her right hand to form a busy pattern of thick, V-shaped folds.
With a short vertical crack to the lower edge. Minor wear. Height 132 cm.
