South German 2nd half 17th century

A South German ivory and wood crucifix, second half 17th century.

A slender wooden crucifix with a crowning pediment set loosely onto a hexagonal base. The cross bears the Corpus Christi and INRI plaque and a figure of the grieving Virgin is depicted carved in the round at Her son's feet.
The three pieces (pedestal, socle, crucifix) are all loosely attached. The ivory roof tiles are probably an addition. Height 57 cm.
