A Strasbourg or Frankenthal porcelain group of a putto and a leopard as an allegory of Spring.

Unmarked, ground down base. Minimal restorations and chips to the flowers, part of the tail broken during firing and subsequently reattached. H 17.7 cm.
Ca. 1754, or Frankenthal, 1755, modelled by Johann Wilhelm Lanz.

The group forms part of a four seasons ensemble mentioned in the Brussels price lists for September 1760 as "Groupes les quatre saisons, enfans avec lion, tigre &c. par regard" (Beaucamp-Markowsky, p. 109). Further examples of this rare group are found in the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin and the Historisches Museum der Pfalz in Speyer.
