A Spanish carved pinewood Maria Lactans relief, circa 1540/1550.

The reverse flattened. With original polychromy and gilding.. An arched panel with a half figure high-relief depiction of the Virgin Mary breastfeeding the infant Christ whilst He kneels upon an angel and embraces the beam of a cross. The Virgin's robes display exceptional painted decor with ornamental and floral motifs. Mounted in a later but stylistically corresponding aedicula frame.
With minimal wear. Relief 48 x 28 x 7 cm, frame 73 x 55 x 11.5 cm.
