An Alpine carved limewood figure of the Virgin enthroned, circa 1200.

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse severely hollowed out. Remains of several older layers of polychromy.. A figure of the Virgin designed for a frontal viewpoint, seated on a simple wooden throne resting upon an equally plain, high socle. She is depicted crowned and holding the Christ Child on Her knees with Her left hand, She would have previously held a sceptre in Her right. The clothed Child is shown grasping a book and holding His right hand aloft in a blessing.
The head of the Child and the Virgin's right hand reattached. Losses to the Child's feet and the Virgin's crown. A loss to the right of the plinth, three drilled holes to the throne and plinth. Height 69 cm.

Dr. Theodor Müller, Munich, in a letter from 24.6.1977. - Restoration reports from the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum, Munich dated 21.7.1977 and 31.8.1978.
