Walther Pompe

A terracotta figure of the Virgin and Child.

Worked three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened.. A figure of the Virgin standing in contrapposto designed for a frontal viewpoint. She is clothed in vigorously draped robes and holds the Christ Child by Her side. Signed and dated "1737 POMPE fe:" to the plinth.
The Virgin's sceptre partially lost. Minimal wear. Height 61 cm.
