An ivory lidded box, possibly for cigarettes. Ca. 1930

An ivory lidded box, possibly for cigarettes, of cylindrical shape, incised with a lady in a wheeled chair being pushed by a servant and a horseman turning back and pointing toward the lady with his whip. The inscription Mo shang zeng mei ren ("To a Beautiful Lady Encountered on the Road") refers to a poem by Li Bai, dated Qianlong renwu and signed Yinyixuan zhuren, and sealed Wang or Yu. On the lid a stroller and a boy attendant. Ca. 1930.
