A small ivory snuff bottle. Ca. 1930

A small ivory snuff bottle of mellon shape with a concave shoulder, the neck carved separately and stuck on, displaying a landscape with two scholars meeting an old man with a walking stick in fine line engraving rubbed with ink, red and green pigments. Inscription below the shoulder. At the base an apocryphal four character mark Qianlong. Ca. 1930.
Height 4.3 cm

The inscription refers to the first line of the 47th chapter of the "Jinghuayuan" (Flowers in the Mirror), a fictional travel novel by Li Ruzhen, 1827.
