A Battle between Christians and Turks before the Walls of Jerusalem

This painting displays similarities to a sketch attributed to Antonio Tempesta kept in the Louvre in Paris (illus. in: E. Leuschner, Antonio Tempesta. Ein Bahnbrecher des römischen Barock und seine europäische Wirkung, 2005, p. 586). Both the sketch and the present work can in turn be considered variations on an engraving made by Tempesta to illustrate Tasso's "Jerusalem Delivered".
