An important partially gilt Augsburg silver communion jug made for the counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken

Engraved with the arms of alliance of the counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken and the counts of Hanau-Lichtenberg, monogrammed "LSGZN GGZH" and dated 1728. H 30 cm, weight 1,182 g.
Marks of Johann II Pepfenhauser, 1728.

Countess Luise Sophie of Nassau-Saarbrücken and Ottweiler (1662 - 1751) donated this communion jug following the death of her husband Count Friedrich Ludwig on 25th May 1728. Thus, the monogram would read: Luise Sophie Gräfin zu Nassau, geborene Gräfin zu Hanau. The jug was presumably intended for the evangelical church in Ottweiler which houses the Nassau-Saarbrücken family tomb.
