Monogrammed and dated to the well: FF 1552.

Christine Van Mulders (Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Antwerp) attributes this work to a direct, contemporary follower of Frans Floris. The back of the panel is branded with the mark of the Antwerp panel maker's guild (two hands and a castle with two towers), guaranteeing the quality of the support.

Presumably formerly owned by the Bishop of Hildesheim. - German artistocratic property.
