A 16th century Italian carved horn depiction of the Virgin and Child with the infant John the Baptist

Presumably rhinoceros horn. This smooth, finely carved high-relief shows the Virgin enthroned before a Renaissance architectural backdrop, holding the nude Christ Child on Her knee and handing the infant Saint John the Baptist an apple with Her right hand.
The frame lacking. With minimal wear. 15 x 11 cm.
