A marble figure of Venus at her toilette by Jacques-Edme Dumont

Carved in the round and partially free-standing. Jacques-Edme Dumont was taught by Augustin Payou (1730-1809) following the death of his father, the sculptor Edme Dumont (1722-1775). He began his studies at the Paris Ècole des Élèves Protégés in 1777, winning the prize of Rome of the Academie royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in 1788. The present lot is one the few known works by this artist influenced by Augustin Pajou. The piece is signed and dated "Edme Dumont 1785" to the side of the plinth.
In perfect condition. Height 74 cm.
