A late Gothic Limoges enamel pax

Polychrome enamel on a slightly arched copper panel, white highlights in relief, gilding, reddish brown or transluscent counter enamel, in a silver alloy frame. A rectangular panel depicting the Virgin in a sunburst, housed in an unusual frame of architectural design surmounted by a (possibly later) openwork design of facing dolphins with flowers issuing from their tails. The surface slightly matte, traces of corrosion to the blue pigment, wear to the gilding, minimal cracks, chips to the edges of the counter enamel. Old repairs and partial re-gilding to the silver frame. H 15.3 cm.
