A carved walnut "minnekästchen" casket

Formed from wooden panels with iron mountings and an iron lock, the interior lined with red cloth. Decorated to the top with a fanciful beast wearing a crown and with a tail formed of acorns, holding further acorns in its maw. The sides carved with Gothic letters. Wear to the edges, with signs of age but in comparatively fine condition, minimal remains of former insect damage. H 9, W 18.5, D 13 cm.
Presumably upper Rhenish, 1st half 15th C.
