An important Parisian Régence régulateur and baromètre clock

Amaranth and rosewood veneer on oak with ormolu and brass mountings. White enamel cartouche dial inscribed in manganese, with blued and gilt openwork hands, original domed glass. Three-week running with Graham escapement, central second mechanism, and calendar aperture. The large brass-covered steel pendulum also functions as a barometer. In an elegantly proportioned and well-preserved case with all the original bronze mountings. Enamelled signature to dial and engraved to plate "Samuel Gautier à Paris". The enamel around the winding hole restored, mechanisms not tested. H 200, W 58, D 28.5 cm.

The design of this piece can best be compared to a regulator by Balthazard Lieutaud in the collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, inv. no. BK-16671. A regulator with similar marquetry and a movement by Lepaute in a private collection published in: Maurice, Schöne Uhren des 17. - 19. Jh., Munich 1990, no. VII).
