Charles (Karel) Beschey

Landscape with the Holy Family

Oil on copper. 36 x 46 cm.

Alongside Pieter Gijsels, Pieter Bouts and Joseph van Bredael, Karel Beschey was among a group of Flemish painters of the 18th century whose works evoke the style of early Netherlandish landscape painting, especially that of Jan Breughel. Characteristic for their works are the sunny landscapes in blue and green tones, which Karel Beschey in particular liked to populate with delicate and finely painted figures. This unsigned panel is registered as a work by this artist with the RKD in The Hague under the no. 258668.
