A French carved ivory low-relief depiction of the mourning Virgin, 2nd half 14th century.

This slender figure has been cut from a carved ivory relief of the crucifixion and set into a simple silver mount to form a pendant presumably relatively soon after. The relief shows the Virgin Mary shrouded in a long cloak, praying and with Her head tilted to the side in a sorrowful gesture.
Slightly soiled, otherwise in perfect condition. Height 5.7 cm (with mount).
