An Austrian carved wooden figure of the Virgin Enthroned, circa 1430/40

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened and deeply hollowed out. With partially retouched older polychromy.. A depiction of the Virgin seated on a plain bank, designed for a frontal and slightly lowered viewpoint. She holds the lively, nude Christ Child with both hands in Her lap and turns slightly towards the beholder. The Virgin's girded red robe and blue cloak fall across Her knees and to the floor in a rich and varied scheme of drapery.
The crack to the back of the Virgin's head with an old filling, a thinly carved area to the torso backed with canvas. The plinth with wedge supports. Wear. Height 90 cm.
