A Central Rhenish carved wooden figure of the Virgin and Child, second half 15th century

Carved three-quarters in the round, the reverse flattened. Partially retouched older polychromy.. A figure of the Virgin standing on a stylised cloud bank in contrapposto with Her torso bent back. She holds the clothed Christ Child on Her left arm, and He reaches for the apple which She holds with Her right hand. The Virgin's balanced pose is harmoniously accentuated by the drapery of Her robes.
The left hand of the Child and some of the fingers of Virgin's left hand lost. Minimal wear. Height 87 cm.
