A Punjab Hills/Kashmiri bronze figure of Vishnu Vaikuntha. 16th/17th century

A Punjab Hills/Kashmiri bronze figure of Vishnu Vaikuntha, standing on a square base, the four hands holding chakra, gada, lotus and shankha, the human head flanked by a lion and boar's head excrescence. The three-leaf crown, earrings and chakra inlaid with rubys (one missing). The figure between his legs damaged. 16th/17th century.
Height 18.5 cm

The Vaikuntha cult was very strong in Kashmir until the Moslem conquest and Vishnu in this form is frequently represented there and in allied religious centres in the North-West.
