A South Indian Tamil Nadu copper alloy figure of Shiva as Lord of gnosis (Vakyana Dakshinamurti) seated with the left foot placed on the right knee on a rocky mound on a stepped base, a small Nandi at his right side, and small bearded rishis flanking him, his right foot crushing Apasmarapurusha, the demon of forgetfulness, the four-armed god with his primary right hand in vyakhyana mudra, the left pointing downwards, his upper hands holding a naga and a trishula. 16th century.
