A South Indian copper alloy figure of Anantashayana with Vishnu lying on the coiled snake Ananta, which is spreading its five-headed hood protectively above Vishnu’s head, head and feet resting on cushions. 14th/16th century.
Height 8.2 cm; length 17.5 cm

At the end of the cosmic era (kalpa), Vishnu rests in meditative sleep on the serpent Ananta on the Ocean of Milk, waiting for Brahma to recreate the universe
