Lorenz Strauch, attributed to

Portrait of the Master Builder Valentin Kaut Portrait of Magdalena Kaudin

Oil on copper. Each 17.5 x 14 cm.
The lady's portrait inscribed and dated to the upper left: Aetatis 45 Anno 1625.

The reverse of the master builder's portrait bears a large coat-of-arms with crowning helm inscribed: "Valentin Kaut. Diesser Zeit Bestälter Baummayster, auff Schwarzenberg und seines Alters im 42 Jar. Anno 1623." His wife's portrait is painted in the same format and bears to the reverse a further large coat-of-arms with a helmet inscribed "Magdalena Kaudin der Zeit paumaysterin auff Schwarzenberg. Ein geborne Bezin von Nörnberg. Anno 1625."
