Westphalian School circa 1500

The Annunciation

Oil on panel. Each 30.5 x 8 cm.

Painted on two individual thin wooden panels set into a later wooden frame. The works presumably formed the outer wings of a small triptych.
With two cuttings from the "Aachener Kunstblätter" from 1913, in which both works are illustrated and discussed, pasted to the back-panel of the frame.

Provenance

Dr. Alfons Bellesheim (1839-1912), Stiftspropst of Aachen Cathedral. - Presumably sold by the museum director Dr. Felix Kuetgens some time between 1932 - 1939 (information kindly provided by Mr. Michael Rief, acting director of the Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum Aachen). - Private collection, Rhineland. - Lempertz auction 977, Cologne, 14.5.2011, lot 1008. - Private collection, Rheinland-Palatinate.
