A Frankfurt silver communion garniture

Interior gilt. Comprising a communion jug and chalice in the original case (with signs of wear), with an associated pyxis and patene. Engraved "PET: HEINR: BETHMANN: DICT: METZLER. DONO DEDIT: ECCL: HUSANK 1785" and "ALEX: STEIN: J.V. GOTTFR SCHARF. DONO DEDERANT. ECCL: HUSANK 1785". H of jug 37; of chalice 24.5 cm, weight 1,016 and 522 g.
Marks of Johann Heinrich Philipp Schott and Johann Jacob von Hilten, ca. 1785.

This communion garniture was presumably a donation from three citizens of Frankfurt - Peter Heinrich v. Bethmann, called Metzler (1744 - 1800) - a member of the Metzler family of bankers; Johann Valentin Gottfried Scharff (1752-1800) - a merchant of this city; and Alexander Stein, a lawyer from the family of the mother of the former.
