The earliest documentation of this Scottish artist's life records him living and working in Utrecht in 1649. This was followed by stays in Amsterdam, The Hague, London, and Italy recorded between 1660 and 1681. Most of his works were still lifes with game and birds, and his style was heavily influenced by the Netherlandish painters Jan Weenix and Cornelis Lelienbergh.
