A Southern Netherlandish carved alabaster figure of St. Barbara, circa 1440/1450

Carved in the round, the back of the head slightly flattened. Minimal remains of former polychromy. A figure of the Saint standing in balanced contrapposto, turned slightly towards the right and holding a small model of the tower in her left hand. The pleated gown and voluminous cloak are both masterfully observed.
Right thumb lacking. A drilled hole to the back of the head, a further drilled hole with a metal pricket to the underside. Height 29.5 cm.
