The present work is listed with the RKD in The Hague as an original work by Gryef under the no. 20378.
An accompanying work with duck hunting scenes was sold together with this piece by Lempertz in 1964, but the paintings were later separated. The pendent is illustrated in: Walther Bernt: Die Niederländischen Maler und Zeichner des 17. Jahrhunderts, 4 vols., Munich 1979, vol. 1, no. 484.
