The attribution to Bocksberger, an artist from the circle of Jost Amman, was made on the basis of a work of the same subject (measuring 131 x 120 cm) in the Museé des Beaux-Arts in Straßburg. Further versions of this composition can be found in Antwerp (listed as Patinier school), in the Museum of Avignon, and as a poorly preserved example in the Raleigh Museum in North Carolina. These four versions, which we have only been able to examine in photographs, appear not to differ in quality to the present work.
