A Nuremberg silver gilt snakeskin beaker

A conical beaker on a moulded, slightly flared foot. Stamped to the underside with inventory no. 21 and a flower-shaped collector's stamp. H 9.8 cm, weight 193 g.
Marks of Christoph Jamnitzer, ca. 1600.

Christoph Jamnitzer was the grandson of the great master Wenzel Jamnitzer, and can boast a similarly impressive oeuvre. The famous "Mohrenkopfpokal" of the Wettiner family, today housed in the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum in Munich, is an example of his work.
