Master of the Life of the Virgin

Madonna with Child and St. Bernard of Clairvaux

Oil on panel. 41 x 30 cm.

The present work is traditionally attributed to the "Master of the Aachen Life of the Virgin". This unknown painter was active in the last third of the 15th century, probably in Cologne. His notname derives from the wings of the main altarpiece in the choir of Aachen Minster, painted around 1485 and depicting eight scenes from the life of the Virgin.
