A 16th century Italian relief depicting the entombment

With older patina. A high relief depiction of the burial of Christ with St. John, Nicodemus, and Joseph of Arimathea lowering the lifeless body of Jesus into an ancient Roman sarcophagus. The sarcophagus bears an inscription, of which only the first line "QVEM TOTVS NON" is still legible. The central group is flanked by mourning figures with the fainting Virgin on the right.
Minimal wear. 12 x 16.5 cm.
