While still a student at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, the painter and graphic artist Axel Fridell was already a sought after portrait painter. This is hardly surprising as in his portraits, he manages to capture and elaborate the emotional state of the sitter with a sensitive eye. This is also the case in our early work, showing his Finnish artist friend Natanael Cassén. As did many other protagonists from the artist scene of the Swedish capital, he also had his portrait painted by Fridell.
