A Nathadwara pichvai illustrating Janmashtami, a festival commemorating Krishna’s birthday. The Shri Nath-ji wears a saffron robe with a peacock plume to his turban and stands in front of a blue and orange background, in front of him Navanitapriya-ji in a swing tended by Nanda and Yasoda, behind them four priests, each holding an attribute. Below cowherds and storage vessels, and in the lower register Mount Govardhan with Govardhan puja and the Dana Lila episode and a tank filled with water. Around the central scene 26 panels showing the adornments of the Nathwdwara image during the seasonal festivals. Colours, gold and silver on cotton fabric. Rajasthan. Late 19th/early 20th century.
