An ivory netsuke of a winding snake, the head turned to the left, the mouth and the split tongue stained red, the pupils of brass. Signed Meigyokusai in a rectangular reserve. Early 20th century.
Height 2.3 cm; width 3.6 cm

Hiraga Tanetsugu (1896-1991) won awards for his carving around 1920. Based on style, the snake netsuke here can be considered to be one of his early works.
