A Nymphenburg porcelain group with a Turkish couple taking coffee

Depicting a recumbent couple against an architectural backdrop taking coffee and sweetmeats at a semicircular table set with a coffee pot and two further cups. Impressed shield mark and incised mark to the base. The rocaille backdrop reattached, the turban feathers and the pipe restored, wear to the gilding, minor cracks. H 22.5 cm.
After 1780, the model by Peter Seefried after Franz Anton Bustelli´s designs.

Peter Anton Seefried combines two models by Franz Anton Bustelli to form this group: The Turkish lady with the pineapple and the Turkish gentleman with a teabowl, which Bustelli modelled in 1756.

Mentioned in Eickermann (ed.), Franz Anton Bustelli, Munich 2004, no. 253. Alongside the two unpainted groups in Munich (Bayrisches Nationalmuseum and Bäuml Collection), Hantschmann and Ziffer also mention three painted groups, one of which is the present work. Two further examples can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York and the Residenzmuseum Munich (p. 524 f.)
