Literature

In his article “Friedrich der Große und das Meißener Porzellan“ (Keramos 208 / 2010, p. 50), Samuel Wittwer mentions a “dinner service with raised flowers, crodesco shells, within which Indian birds, flowers, and fruit, gilt edging“ (from the German) ordered from Meissen by Frederick II in early 1760.
There are various archival records of this service in Dresden, Meissen, and Berlin, the most significant being Geh. StA Berlin SPK, I HA Geheimer Rat, Rep. 36, no. 1928, fol. 8r-31v, specifying that the Meissen manufactory was to create and send porcelain to his majesty the King in 79 boxes, from no. 1 to 79 (from the German). Box no. 1 contained the first instalment of this service, and many subsequent orders were to follow.
