A Meissen porcelain plate from the Brandenstein service

Decorated in the Kakiemon style with a yellow lion, birds, and butterflies. Blue crossed swords mark, pressnummer 22. Two small filled rim chips, some wear. D ca. 23.8 cm.
Ca. 1741 - 1745, modelled by Johann Friedrich Eberlein, April 1741.

Originally a commission for Count Brühl, Johann Friedrich Eberlein created a similar design in 1736, but this was never produced. The Alt-Brandenstein relief as it exists here was first produced in 1741 for an as yet unidentified service for Friedrich August von Brandenstein, recorded in Eberlein's report for the month of April: " (...) a plate, braided in an entirely new design, for his excellency head kitchen master von Brandenstein" (Archiv der Staatlichen Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen, AA I Ab 16 fol. 104a)

Provenance

Private collection, Rhineland.
