A rare Meissen porcelain dish from the service for Count Münnich

A deep dish with Sulkowski-Ozier mouldings. Decorated to the centre with the coat-of-arms of Münnich and von Nutzhorn zu Münchenau framed by the collar of the Russian Order of Saint Andrew above a cartouche with the motto of the order OBSEQUIO ET CADORE, surrounded by scattered flowers. Blue crossed swords mark, former's mark E for Johann Gottfried Eckoldt. Retouches to the gilding. D ca. 23 cm.
Ca. 1735/40.

In his 1910 "Festschrift", Karl Berling dates the service made for Count Burchard Christoph von Münnich (1683 - 1767) to 1738. The model and decor are clearly related to the service completed for Count Sulkowski between 1735 and 1737, and thus Berling's over 100 year old suggestion still applies.
Münnich served as general field marshal in the courts of Augustus the Strong and the Russian Tsarina Elisabeth I, where he fell into disregard in 1741 and was banished to Siberia. He was later rehabilitated and served as general field marshall once again and as director of all Russian ports at the court of Peter III.
