South German 2nd half 15th century

Two South German carved limewood angels as candle holders, 2nd half 15th century

Carved in the round. Extensive remains of presumably original polychromy. Kneeling curly haired angels designed as a pair, each holding a candlestick on the raised knee. The charming works are characterised by the drapery of their long girded robes, which fall in heavy folds down to the plinths.
The hands and wings lost. Wear with minor losses. Height of each 26.5 cm.
